Hey Sandra. I am trying to solve your riddle. My guess is the telling of the upbring of a child and of its subsequent behavior.

This exception happens with children quite frequently. I am an advocate of the rule, "(if you) spare the rod (you will) spoil the child."

I read it as a couple trying to mend each other's pain with unexpected results but then again the meaning could be an elusive endeavor with endless meanings to this person and that person
